KAYA COMMUNITY STANDARDS

KAYA is here to push the climbing community forward. To do that, we need to have meaningful, positive, and supportive discourse in our community.

Be a positive force. If you have something positive and meaningful to contribute to a discussion, do it. If not, avoid the thread.

Share beta, avoid spray. The difference between beta and spray is whether information or advice is welcomed, and how it is delivered. Be cognizant of what others are looking for, offer your experience and advice with humility, and avoid condescension, judgment, and “policing.” Be clear about what you are looking for in the community so others can respond and contribute appropriately.

Disagree respectfully. Just as there are many ways to climb a climb, different points of view may be simultaneously valid and opposing. When we disagree, we do so respectfully, assume good, and appreciate that every climber can create their own beta however distant it may seem to us.

No harassment. Harassment, including but not limited to hate speech, derogatory language, racism, sexism, intentional public embarrassment, and sexual harassment will not be tolerated.

Protect and respect outdoor climbing areas. Outdoor climbing holds a special place in all our hearts and, as such, we should treat the outdoor areas we visit and recreate in with respect. Practice sustainable and ethical behavior when climbing in the outdoors. Share the outdoors with others respectfully and help continue to preserve climbing access for generations to come.
